This article is a personal account on suffering from BPD which is always interesting to read. Due to the diagnostic limitations of psychiatry this is another often misdiagnosed disorder which renders patients susceptible to the consequences of their volatile behavior. Again and again this crops up; Raising awareness about ALL mental health disorders, dispersing the stigma associated with psychiatric diagnosis, and increasing tolerance for mentally ill patients are the keys to better treatment and outcomes. Jaded and overwhelmed physicians tend to over-prescribe and over-medicate their patients while having less and less time to do counselling or psychotherapy which is what alot of patients with BPD need. The right balance between meds and therapy needs to be always strived for and the possibility of avoiding unnecessary medications should be always considered.
