Second chance medical schools? It may be a catchy topic but i think it is very discouraging to people who have intentions of going to medical school abroad. There are students who want to go to Caribbean Medical Schools not because they were rejected by the US schools but because it is more affordable. There may be many reasons behind people's choices to pursuing a medical degree on the island but the bottom line is that they still get to follow their dreams and get a chance to do what they really want to do with the rest of their lives. I know of people who have matched in to Dermatology, plastic surgery and general surgery. These are fields that are considered to be meant for the US students only but that is not always the case. I believe that Caribbean Medical student, although they might be stereotyped in one way or the other, can still get into what ever filed they want as long as the have good grades and meet the requirements needed for these specialties. It is a matter of perspective in my opinion. Bottom line is, if you understand the basic sciences and put in the effort to go a step further, there will be a job for you at the end of the day. If you really want something that bad, you will rise above the stereotypes and fight for what you want no matter what it takes.

I am grateful for my chance at a medical career given to me by the Caribbean school I go to. I think that people pour too much faith and credit into programs while forgetting that the individual has alot to do with their own success. I have met many doctors who credit their success in medicine to their own faith, attitude and personality. It is not sufficient to say that American schools are better than Caribbean schools. This thought just completely disregards and does not account for the determination and ability of the individual.

Regarding the article, my point of view might be a little biased since i am currently attending a caribbean medical school and having family that has attend St.George's university in the past. I am inclined to agree with a lot of what the author mentions in the article. I am really impressed with how the author uses personal examples of students who are currently attending a caribbean medical school. I was also amazed with the amount of intricate detail the author mentions about the classes at St. George's it almost feels like i was back in medical school doing a chest physical examination on a patient. I like how the author mentions the differences in Tuition, Student debt and pass rates between the all the caribbean medical schools. I didn't realize that there were 70 caribbean medical schools till i read this article. Caribbean medical schools have given me a great oppurtunity in helping me accomplish my goal of becoming a competent physician in the US and for that i am grateful.

This article was interesting to read especially as it is written from an established newspaper the NYTs. I think it is a good thing that caribbean med schools are being written about in todays news. It is important to do so in order for people to better understand the how medical programs are being ran in america and the effects these programs have on our future doctors. It is clear that the reason caribbean schools are being created at a rapid pace is due to the old in inefficient ways of traditional medical schools. While this topic is important to discuss and write about so more people become aware of the issues surrounding medical schools, the tone of this article is written in a negative light and results in a sort of bias that leads people towards a perspective unfavoring those who have worked hard no matter where there origins started. I think people need to have a full understanding of problems with US medical schools today in order to realize whats going wrong and properly come up with a way to fix it. In the mean time this article does not help anyone out and instead throws awkward jabs toward toward those who want to help and build a better future.

Good article. I think it was an obvious choice for the writer to use St George as the main topic. They've been around for a long time. The most interesting part of the article was the statistic shared by the independent survey company of 90% of US citizen graduates from a foreign medical school match for residency. That is quite a significant value. I think if that number were talked about more the general perception of foreign medical school students would change in a positive manner. I wish that undergraduate academic advisors were more willing to promote foreign medical schools.

Being a good doctor requires commitment, passion, drive, and intellect. It requires persistence and determination to succeed against all odds. The call to become a physician for me is a calling from the most High. I've always desired to help, heal, and cure people of their infirmaties. Regardless of medical school choices, this is the career I've chosen because it fulfills my purpose in life which is to serve others. I believe my patient's deserve the best care I can possibly give. The knowledge to be a good physician can come from multiple sources. Name brand US school's which are comparable to Carribean schools like UMHS in St.Kitts should not deter any student from achieving their potential. We all are required to pass the USMLE which proves that we have acquired mastery of basic sciences. We complete rotations in the US, serving US patients and their physicians. After serving patients in hospitals within the US as a registered nurse for 20 years, I can attest that Carribean students get sufficient exposure to clinical experiences that will provide us with the foundation needed to excel as one the best physicans any patient could ever aspire to have. People, whether here in the US or on an island, all have the same basic physiological needs. Illness and disease is everywhere. As a Carribean medical student of UMHS, I am proud to be prepared in mind, body, and spirit to serve patients anywhere in the world.

Very informative article for those individuals not familiar with Caribbean medical schools. Although most students say that they will never return to the island they went to school on, but I feel myself thinking quite differently. I loved my time on the island of Nevis and wouldn't have changed it for the world. It was so simple and with not much to do, it didn't feel like such of a burden to study every single day.
I do consider the Caribbean medical schools to be a great opportunity, although there are many students who go only to find out that it is not as easy as they may first have thought. We were learning the same information as American medical schools and the timing of the curriculum was just as difficult if not more so. From the present moving forward, I know that there will be more Caribbean medical schools opening their doors and an increased amount of students filling those seats. In the next decade or two, there will indeed be a shortage of physicians and the Caribbean opportunity is a great way to fulfill that dream.

Historically, real estate has proven to be one of the best-performing investment classes. As real estate investors ourselves, we spent years investing through the traditional approach, only to see much of the profits from those investments eaten up by inefficiency, unnecessary overhead, and middlemen who added little value.Fed up with the old way of doing things, we started Monecy with the simple idea to use technology to redefine how people invested in real estate — lowering the costs, improving the quality, and broadening the access. We faced our fair share of skeptics, including industry professionals who told us that our idea was impossible. Turns out, they were wrong. The idea is simple yet powerful. Take a high quality investment class and make it available to anyone through one simple, efficient, and transparent platform. At Monecy, we put our investors first, period.Welcome to the future of investing! clck.ru/M8KCo
